Vermicomposting as a Sustainable Option for Managing Biomass of the Invasive Tree Acacia dealbata Link

چکیده

The tree Acacia dealbata is native to Australia but has become invasive in many parts of the world thanks its N-fixing capacity and allelopathic compounds present biomass. We conducted a pilot-scale study assess potential conversion A. biomass by vermicomposting via earthworm Eisenia andrei. flowering aerial was shredded placed vermireactor under greenhouse conditions for 56 days. vermicomposted material sampled every two weeks analyse biological chemical parameters. phytotoxicity fresh vermicompost assessed an ecotoxicological test with Lepidium sativum seeds. activity earthworms caused strong modifications properties processed material: electric conductivity, basal respiration, organic matter content were reduced, whereas concentrations other elements such as N, P, or Zn increased. increased steadily until day 42 then decreased, probably due depletion labile during initial stages vermicomposting. reduced germination radicle elongation L. sativum, showed same values control. produced fertiliser rich N not phytotoxic. Vermicomposting provides opportunity create new value chain control dealbata.

Natural and induced polyploidy in Acacia dealbata Link. and Acacia mangium Willd.

Seeds were obtained from seven natural populations of Acacia dealbata, three natural populations of A. mangium and a seed orchard of A. mangium, representing the natural range of the two species. Polyploids were discovered in two of the seven populations of A. dealbata. The 2C DNA amount for diploid A. dealbata (2n = 2x = 26) was 1.74 pg, and for diploid A. mangium (2n = 2x = 26) was 1.30 pg. Biomass and nutrient mass of Acacia dealbata and Eucalyptus globulus bioenergy plantations

We quantified biomass and nutrient accumulation of Acacia dealbata Link and Eucalyptus globulus Labill. planted at stem densities of 5000 and 15000 ha 1 in a bioenergy plantation in Chile. We tested the hypotheses that species and stocking will not affect biomass or nutrient accumulation. Species and stocking did not affect biomass accumulation after five years; however, species and stocking di...

Effects of natural leachates of Acacia dealbata Link in Galicia (NW Spain)

A systematic collection of throughfall (rain passing through the canopies), stemflow (rain flowing over the stems), and soil percolates was carried out in a Acacia dealbata plantation during one year, and its allelopathic capacity was biotested using Lactuca sativa L. var. Great Lakes. The results showed an allelopathic effect related to flowers: Germination of L. sativa was inhibited 30% by th...
